I'm asking, and yes, it's necessary I make a new thread. I would like responses ASAP, if I just add onto the 2G Mini VBR skip thread, no one will acknowledge it.

Anyone who has a video ipod slash plans to pick one up soon, please test it! Thanks

I believe these literally just started to show up at stores this week. It may take another week or two before we learn whether this is fixed or not, but I would be interested to.

i figure it shouldnt be long before we get some responses.

after all, this is the hottest selling mp3 player and i doubt it'll live on shelves for very long

Yes . . . testing. Hopefully Apple will take a hint and increase the audio processing too.

wow, just swapped my 60gb photo for a 30gb video white (will explain later, and probably swap for a 60gb black once they're in stock) cause i have the service plan, and neither NIN nor Fiveyears skipped.

this is great great great news.

sorry to photo users though sad.gif i doubt they'll make a fix for them.

i listened three times, no eq and not plugged in, i'm still blown back

Finally... can't wait to get my hands on one. biggrin.gif

However... experience has now tought me to be patient and see what problems might turn up - so I will hold my horses for just a little longer. smile.gif

It's a magnificient mp3 player, i just bought a U2 music video for $1.99 and i can't say i'll be doing that often, or ever again.

But I wanted to see how videos looked asap, so i bought it.

Mainly though, it is an mp3 player still. the 2.5" screen is gorgeous.

And i don't even know if I'll upgrade to 60gb, because it does have a higher battery life. I wonder if the "battery optomizations" were included in the 60gb but not the 30gb.

I can assume 60gb wont skip with vbr either, but it's not confirmed. and if that's the case, i'd still be more than happy with my 30gb.

Finally though, perfection!!! I'm infinitely content

Perfection . . . really?? Have you aver had audio distortion problems with your other ipods? If so, do the same samples play fine on the video? Is the overall sound quality improved?? Just curious (and excited)

i havent ever heard distortion, but i dont really listen to the piano much (except for when its in coldplay), and from the reviews i've read , the piano distortion and two other distortion problems have been fixed.

According to iLounge, the following issues with the new iPod are definitely fixed:

QUOTE
As the fourth-generation iPod increased in popularity, so did calls from serious music lovers for Apple to improve its audio quality. Despite praise for the iPod's neutral sound balance, people eventually identified three different areas of audio gripes with the prior iPod: a static and hard drive noise that overlapped songs every time the hard disk was accessed, a general lack of bass power and related distortion when the "bass booster" equalizer was activated, and sizzling distortion that could be heard around the edges of notes on piano solos. So we immediately connected our most sensitive headphones to the 5G iPods, and were pleased to find that all three of these issues had been either reduced or eliminated. Here's what we found.

The hard drive and static noise issue is gone. This problem was initially obvious in black-and-white 4G iPods, but thanks to some tweaking on Apple's part, became hard to notice in color 4G iPods unless using high-end headphones. Now, even using $900 Ultimate Ears UE-10 Pros, the noise isn't there. We're thrilled.

Bass performance has been improved. In testing with a collection of lossless tracks and the UE-10 Pros, small but noticeable enhancements of the bass are definitely apparent, giving tracks an inoffensively warmer sound. With Bass Booster turned on, distortion is not absent in the 5G, but is definitely lower, and has a smoother, less mechanical edge.

Piano solos are now clean. Previously, in certain tracks, distortion (a light sizzling) could be heard around the silent edges of piano notes. Comparative testing with one of the sample identified piano tracks("Bladiator") provided by iLounge readers shows that this distortion has been completely eliminated.

All of these fixes make us considerably happier about the 5G iPod's audio performance than we were before, and we're thrilled to see that Apple has addressed them. That said, the iPod is still not perfect in audio. For instance, iLounge readers correctly point out that there's a minor bug that occurs when you stop a video to play back an audiobook: the video's audio track continues to play and overlaps with the audiobook, creating a messy, staticy sound. And we continue to wait for the company to provide custom dynamic equalization through graphic equalizers on the 5G's screen, a feature found in many of the iPod's best competitors, and still hope that Apple will add pro-friendly features such as crossfading, tempo and pitch adjustment.

Take it for what it is worth since it wasn't a double-blind test, but it is definitely encouraging.

swapped my 30gb white for a 60gb black.

i havent tested to see if it skips, but i'd assume the same and haven't heard anything yet from my normal listening.

60gb is the way to go for more battery life.
Cygnus X1
The 60GB models now have 64MB of RAM for the disk buffer, whereas the 30GB model has the standard 32MB. According to iLounge, this is probably what is accounting for the increased battery life with the 60GB model.
earphiler
just tested my 60gb, it is skippy free too smile.gif

so regardless of color (never affected anything) or capacity of the video, rest assured, it will be skip free.

enjoy iPodding.

yeah, i'm glad I got the 60gb for double storage (videos will probably eat this thing alive) and the extra battery life.

Let's hope that they figured out a fix for those of us stuck with earlier iPods and the iPod Nano.
