Just out of curiosity I e-mailed Pontis about their players and their support for OGG Vorbis, and look : ohmy.gif

Dear Mr. Christensen,
your player SP600 will support the oggVorbis codec.
At the beginning of the year 2003 a firmwareupdate will
probably published.

Best regards

Yes - they sell models with up to 256 mb.

Calculation:
OGG Vorbis Q1(80 kbit) should give an average 600 kb. pr. minute of music.
If you get the 256 MB model, you can stock up about 425 minutes of music, which equals over 7 hours of music!!

Not bad.

The 256 mb model is in the pricerange of the iPods and DAPs, but still - it's a good price, since it compact and since it's flash-based I would assume it has a long playback time pr. charge.

Yes, there is not doubt that Vorbis is the best format for portable players! B)

Update!

We're in february 2003, and there still is no Ogg Vorbis support, so I did another mail to Peros (Pontis manufacturer) :

Hello,

at the moment the player plays only mp3-files.
But we're working for a oggVorbis update
which will be published in march oder april.

good news. i hope vorbis can spread its popularity by portable devices of little manufactures so one day creative and sony will make less profit, because noone wants their mp3/atrac players anymore. then they maybe will support vorbis too. money is the only language they understand.

3 years on, and does anyone know about Vorbis-support for the Pontis-devices? biggrin.gif
Couple of new models have been introduced, but what about SP-600 -support? Anyone?
