Full Version: iTunes filename creation

When I rip a Cd in I-Tunes to MP3, two folders are automatically created, one with the name of the artist, and a sub-folder with the name of the album. In this sub-folder I can find the filename.

Well, as a professional DJ, I do not like to organize my folders this way. I prefer to have one only main folder with all my MP3 tracks or have some folders named by genre. I like to have the filename as: Artist name - Track name. This does not occur when you rip with I-Tunes, and so you need to use Tag & Rename in order to rename the file (s).

I would like to suggest to I-Tunes programers a feature found in AudioGraber, where in Options, you can create filenames from Artist name and Track name or create a Directory for Artist and a Sub-Directory for album.

Yeah, custom filename schemes are available in every multimedia app except iTunes. blink.gif

To be honest, there are a lot of multimedia apps that lack filename schemes. iTunes has some filename options. But programs like Windows Media Player and Real Player lack advanced file naming settings. Mainstream multimedia apps tend to have very easy setups that lack advanced options that the "common" user would not need.

Windows Media Player will let you change the naming scheme it uses. It's one of the esoteric and hard to find settings in the Tools->Options screen.

Personally, after I rip CDs into iTunes, I never want to look at the actual file ever again.

Have you ever tried to burn a Data Cd using the MP3 files created by I-Tunes and then tried to listen to the cd in a portable MP3 player or in your car MP3 player ?

You will see that you will never see the name of the artist in the MP3 player display. Only the name of the song will be displayed.

Hope you can do the test.

Good luck !

That really depends on the MP3 player. My old car MP3 player (which broke in a wreck) would read ID3 tags just fine.

Seriously dude, are you a bit slow? People already told you it's "iTunes", there is no "I-Tunes".

RealPlayer gives you the option of choosing up to four of the following for the file name: Artist, Album, Track Name, Track Number and Genre. It also has several choices for no sub-folder, and one, two or three sub-folders.

This is to thank you for your reply. I am evaluating RealPlayer.
