Full Version: Tagging Ogg Files... And Mp3 Too!
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > Ogg Vorbis > Ogg Vorbis - General
Comando_Gruya
Hi!
I know that Helium2 is a good program to tag both MP3 and OGG files... but I think is a little expensive so...
żDoes anybody know a simple-program to tag OGG files and MP3's? Something like tOGGer but with support for MP3's...
żIs Tag + Tag Frontend the answer to my question?
I don't know if there are more programs, and the info out there is confusing...
(Oh! I also need the FILENAME-TO-TAG function too!)
Thanks a lot,
Comando Gruya.

Use speek's multi frontend. It's in alpha stage. That's it.

Tag does both jobs and it is free.
Speek's frontend will help you using it.

Use Mediajukebox it tag's all sort of files

I really need to learn about this tagging business. I dont think my frontend is gonna be very good without it biggrin.gif
Comando_Gruya
OK, ok. I think I'll will use TAG + TAG FRONTEND (MEDIAJUKEBOX is about 9 MB!! Woah!!). Thanks.

I Use Helium 1.7 beta 4. It won't do any ogg files that's for sure.
But if you rename your ogg files to mp3 it works like a charme. The only thing is that you then have to rename them back to ogg.

Good Luck

You only need "ż" when writing in Spanish... English doesn't use it at all you know... tongue.gif

Err... what? I have never tried the program, but wouldn't it add ID3 tags to the Vorbis files then? If so, that's definitely not the way to go.
Comando_Gruya
Sorry! I forgot it!

çñĦż=;-)

PS: I don't think using Helium 1.7b4 is the best way to tag OGG files also...

Volcano:

I think this is the way to go. I want some extra info in with my ogg files. The only way is to do it with an id3 tag.

Do you have any sugestions on how to do that??

I've tried some of the progs that can edit id3's ogg files but was not so satisfied with them.

Placing ID3 onto Ogg Vorbis is a bad idea. Ogg Vorbis has its own tagging system which is superior to ID3.

I explained the issue to you in the other thread - Oggies *have no ID3 tag*, they have VorbisComments. Do see how they work, fire up Winamp and set the tag editor to Advanced mode.

A good way to mass-tag Vorbis files is to use WinVorbis, my favourite Vorbis app smile.gif, or tOGGer.

Winvorbis: Done it, Removed all tags from some files, Was not happy, Repaired it, Took a f****** long time to repair, Done that. Not sure if i want to keep using this program.

Togger: A litlle bit better still i am not sattisfied with these two progs. What i am missing is a way to make a list or a playlist with these progs. Have you ever taken the time to look at Helium?? You will see it is much better than all these put together.

But that's my oppinion i gues.

Helium2 supports ogg since helium2 version 1.2

http://www.helium2.com/main/readnews.php?news_id=7

Helium1 is very old.

Secondly if you rename to mp3 and tag you will add id3 tags and NOT ogg tags.
Helium2 tags ogg files fine with ogg tags... I'm not sure you can use custom keys though.

I managed to upset tOGGer somehow and it ruined a directory of my files. 328 oggs of zero bytes, not good.

I forgot this in my previous post:

Case's Tag.exe is a marvellous mass tagger as well - supports *all* popular formats, does basically anything you want. And it can create playlists. If you're not familiar with the command-line interface, you can use Speek's frontend.

I haven't, actually. I'm so happy with WinVorbis and Tag, I don't need any alternatives. biggrin.gif

guru: did the files you were trying to use winvorbis on have id3 tags? If so, perhaps that was the problem.
ID3 + OGG = evil evil evil.

Otherwise, weird, I've never had any problems with it.

Had the same problem. I think it must be me who's doing something wrong. But i see i'm not the only one.

I think i had a id3 attached to the ogg files. I am not sure tho.

I am learning to handle these progs.

Thanks for the tips

I am. smile.gif You certainly had an ID3 tag tacked onto the Oggies, because you set EAC to do so.

If this causes tOGGer to freak out, you should send the author a bug report.

Maybe tag.exe can remove those ID3 tags, I don't know if ID3 removal will work properly on Vorbis files.
Parak
On a related note, can any program add lyrics to oggs in lyrics3 2.0 format (so that it can be read from by misc lyrics plugins), or is that id3 only?
Volcano
That would probably be just as criminal as adding ID3 tags.

If you still want to do it, you can force Tag into using a specific tagging scheme. But you *really* shouldn't do it.

BTW, @Case, if you're reading this: I know about the "--force <tag>" option, but what are the identifiers to use for each tag? I didn't find any info on this in the readme.

BTW, @Case, if you're reading this: I know about the "--force <tag>" option, but what are the identifiers to use for each tag?

All the following are valid:
ID3v1 tag: ID3 or ID3v1
APEv1 tag: APE, APE1, APEv1 or APE v1
APEv2 tag: APE2, APEv2, APE v2
Vorbis comment: Ogg
FLAC comment: FLAC
Lyrics3 v2 tag: Lyrics

Hmm, how does the lyrics tagging work? I tried it with Tag on an ogg file, it added the lyrics in form of a LYRICS tag, with the value containing the lyrics, and the lyrics plugin recognised it. Yet when I tried adding the tag manually (same name and value), to a backup of the same file, it did not work.

Does Tag add in a id3 tag as well?

It shouldn't unless you tell it to.

What do you mean with "adding the tag manually"? What exactly did you do?

Just edited the tag from winamp, used Add New, put LYRICS as the name, and the actual lyrics for value. Exactly the same as what Tag added, but doesn't work ;/

Is there any program win32 or linux that you can recurse special tags you added to ogg files. Like a massive tag reader, not writer for ogg. Also I tried togger and Helium2 -

And togger is definity the best for tagging but not mass reading support.
EDIT:
I tested togger more extensively since I thought it "looked" good. Instead it chomped up a file or two, nothing serious. Its not ID3 related, I did stop adding those.heh. Togger website mentions the error I hope it is resolved soon. ntdll.dll errors. Should be good in a couple of releases.

Helium is a total media library tool but no custom column for specialized tags, and is slower than Shuffleplay, which is what I am trying to replace.(cept shuffle never supported ogg or other weird formats)

Basically I've added a CMD tag to all my recent oggs. It listed my q and lowpass in a comment. I wanted to move to lowpass 18 from 17.5 was trying to find which are which. dry.gif

I see.

What you're adding through Winamp is an Ogg Vorbis Comment named "LYRICS=...". If you specify "Lyrics" in Tag.exe it means that it will add a Lyrics3 tag. That's two different things.

Anyway, remember, you really should *not* use anything else than Vorbis Comments. There's no problem storing the lyrics in a Vorbis Comment. If your software can't read it, send the author a suggestion to support Ogg Vorbis Comments. smile.gif

Yeah, I tried to do that, because Tag added the exact same thing. However, comparing a TAG edited file, and the one that I added the same thing to, the TAGged file is a few bytes larger, which leads me to believe it adds something extra aside from the LYRICS= tag.

However, what's weird, is if I delete the LYRICS tag from a TAG created file, and re-add it, it does not work (even though it's the exact same thing)

Weirdness I say ;p
Volcano
Hang on... I think we're not understanding each other. smile.gif

You mean, when you tagged the file using "Tag --force Lyrics", Winamp's File Info would show up "LYRICS=..."? That'd seem kinda impossible to me...
