Hi, i'm considering to buy my first mp3 player, and the choise is restricted between yp-mt6z and ifp-799. I like them because they have great sound, long battery life, fm radio. The samsung is cheaper and more beautiful, the iriver is bigger but it has more features and maybe a better sound quality. I'm looking for a player to use everyday and is simple to use.
What do you think about these two players?
The difference of sound quality is big or they are all two good?
Another question: i will buy the player on ebay, they are refurbished players, do you have ever buyed a refurbished product?

A couple of things against the IFP.

1. Do you use Vorbis? If so, it will only play files whose average bitrate is between 96 and 224.

2. File transfer speeds are pretty slow. It's supposedly USB 2.0 compliant but transfer speeds are about USB 1.1 speed. The newer T10 and T30 have much faster transfer speeds.

Thank you for the replies. I've seen on ebay that the prices are similar (the samsung is about 10 euro cheaper), the Iriver maybe is more complete but i don't know if i need things like watch, timer recording from the radio or better line-in encoding...

One difference that i've found is the output power: the Iriver is 18+18 mW and the Samsung is only 10+10mW. Do you think that it's a big difference when using earphones or the difference will only be clear if they are linked with external speakers?

I suggest you don't worry too much about the minor differences in the specs of these players but focus on the overall quality of the product. Samsung makes higher quality players. I recommend it over iRiver. Another great reason to go for Samsung is the better Vorbis support. Because the Vorbis encoder shines at the bitrates suitable for portable players; that would be a major plus if I was buying one (I have a Sony NW-E507 with no Vorbis support which I miss).

Otherwise buying refurbished products on eBay is fine. Just read the seller's feedback. Another good site to purchase refurbished products at low prices is ubid.com.

Thank you, in fact i've read good things about the samsung player, and i think that i'll buy it, it seems to my a very good and compact product, maybe one of the best 1gb mp3 player around.
