I-Tunes creates automatically a genre pick-up list that is very useful to enter data faster, correctly and without full re-typing ( like Excell). I-love it !

Now, if you delete all files you have in the hard disc that were tagged as HOUSE, for example, the pick-up list will continue showing the genre HOUSE. The big problem is that sometimes the list becomes very long with genres that you use no more. This is bad when you want to browse the list.

Does anybody know how to delete a genre from the pick-up list ?

My suggestion for Apple is that we should be able to delete from the list, but that a protection should also exist in order to avoid deleting genres that are in use.

In previous versions, all you had to do was to remove all songs from a genre and the genre would disappear from the list. The built in genres would never disappear, but your custom ones would. Has this behavior changed?

If it is stored the custom genres after removing them from all songs, then it would be storing them in the iTunes.prefs file. Removing this file should force iTunes to rebuild it on program start.

You are right. I-Tunes behavior was not changed. I made a big mistake and I apologize. Thanks a lot for helping me.

I would appreciate if Apple could create the possibility to delete the built-in genres.

I-love I-Tunes !

But gentlemen, if the masses were able to delete genres directly then songs in the Library which point to those genres would end up genre-less! How yucky! tongue.gif
