hi
i'm dont really want a pure mp3 player so i was wondering...
is there a portable cd-r/rw player that plays mp3s in their folders? i.e separating songs in folders depending on the album/aritist,etc. similar to what car decks can do.
thanks
I have a RioVolt SP150 CD/MP3 player. You can organize music into folders on it. I use a different folder for each album. It also can show ID3 tag info but it does not use them to navigate from song to song. I also used to have a Phillips Expanium (forget the model number but it was about $50 at WalMart) that was the same way. I'd imagine most of the ones out there work the same way.
I wouldn't recommend either of these players. I had two of the Expaniums, each one worked great for a couple of weeks and then died. When the second one died I replaced it with the RioVolt. The Rio works when it wants to basically sometimes it's great other times it won't recognize any CD's. Of course these were both cheapo models but still when I buy something I expect it to serve it's purpose no matter the cost. I'm sure the more expensive ones are better but IMO once you get above $100 or so you might as well take the plunge and get a pure MP3 player. Many nice flash based players are available in that price range. And many hard drive players are availble for not a whole lot more.
Personally I think hard drive and flash MP3 players are a much better idea. After owning a hard disk player I could never go back to a CD based MP3 player. It's just too much of a hassle IMO to be carting around CD's not to mention taking the time to organize and burn them when you can have all of your music at your fingertips with a hard disk player.
Of course a CD player has it's advatages too. Being able to listen to the CD you just bought on the drive home for example.
I originally felt the same way as you, I didn't want a "pure" MP3 player. After owning CD based ones and then getting a hard drive player and seeing the advantages I'm sold on them.
So after all that rambling my advice to you is take the plunge and buy a pure MP3 player. You won't regret it.
hope this helps

thankyou jamie,
greatly appreciated your input.
i was in favour of a cd player as i could get most of my burnt albums when i travel places. i didnt want to fork out more for a larger hdd mp3 player to fit every album i wanted to bring.
if, like your past experiences, the cheaper ones tend to be inconsistent then i may consider a pure mp3 player.
thankyou
