Hi,

I have recently done some heavy backups and stumbled upon a big problem. I don't know what is on each dvd (too many small files to label info on the sleeves) sad.gif I am looking for software that would allow me to catalogue these dvds. What I would like to do is to mark each dvd using a number, say #0001 and so on. The file listing would be in the software (it would be cool if it would scan my audio files for tags too smile.gif ). Can anyone recomend a good piece of software that would allow me to do this.

Thanks

MPEG Audio Collection does stuff like that.

iam using this one (replaced catfish which was crashing on some systems):

(very basic - but thats what i wanted, will not support any tags.)

edit: + the best web page ever.

For files only (without tag info) the built in DIR command for Windows can work, and be outputted into a text file, example:

dir /s "%programfiles%" > "C:\filelist.txt"

For DIR usage type in: dir /?

Just my 2 cents:
I use Cathy (http://rvas.webzdarma.cz/): free, no install and only 45kB!

Sorry for ressurecting an old-ish post. But I just want to gush about Cathy.

Based on my experience:
  • It scans a CD in mere seconds. I can't really tell how fast, because in my experience it's like: Disc spins up, disc spins down, disc ejected. And the cataloging for that disc is already finished.
  • It searches multiple CD's in a blink of an eye. The last cataloger I use, DiscLib, takes minutes.
  • The version I use is only 58 KiB in size, no installer.
  • It creates data files in the same folder as the program, so I can just copy them to flash disks, and search my collection everywhere (if the necessity arises, that is).
And I see in the maker's homepage, there's a command-line catalog builder available for those who breathes command-line biggrin.gif the website even goes as far as how to put that as autoplay handler, so you can just put in CD after CD after CD and Cathy will catalog them all...

Edit: The instruction for configuring Cathy as auto cataloger is actually here
