As I sad before, I want to play WMA in the car with In-Dash Receiver (it play mp3 + wma)..
My problem is? This In-Dash Receiver play only protected wma.. I don't know how to add (DRM) to wma?
I have got several lectures with wma ,, and I can't convert them to mp3, because it will take a large space with CD's?
I just want add (DRM) to these Files *.wma?

So, please, Any one Guide me through this process.

That's pretty damned strange.

Anyways, if you're using Windows Media Player as the cd ripping program you can copy-protect the music to your hearts content via:
Options->Rip Music: Copy protect music

You'll need to backup your DRM licenses as well in case you have to reinstall Windows, located in (WinXP):
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM

There's hidden files in the DRM folder therefore you'll have to enable hidden file view, or just zipping the whole DRM folder would suffice.

If you want DRM then go to the iTMS music store

I didn't know that Windows Media was popular enough to even have an in-dash reciever. It's even stranger that it will only play DRMed files. Are you sure this is the case? Just seems very strange that files need to be DRM.

That's not just strange, it's absolutely absurd.

I think you misread the manual, or it is the result of a bad translation. If it only plays unprotected WMA, then that makes a *lot* more sense.

mp3 won't be large, since its just lecture, ABR 56 22050 Hz is just good enough, you can go down to 40 kbps mono too!

I don't know any shortcuts, the only way I know is reencode the files and add DRM

You'll have to copy the winamp WMA plugin to enable WMA decoding in CDex

Copy dll from
C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\in_wm.dll

to Cdex plugins folder

If you've decided to use mp3, you can also use Cdex to convert the files to mp3.

I agree, something doesn't sound right here. I have not come across any car CD decks that plays protected WMA CD's. All of the ones I have seen play unprotected wma's, mp3's, and unprotected mpeg-4 AAC's.

Out of curiousity, what receiver is it?

These lectures located in my hard disk… not with CD
In addition, it is with wma extensions without DRM…
All methods you have said are goods, just if you rip from Audio CD.
I cannot get any clearly answer until now with some clearly instructions.

Like I said before, that doesn't make any sense. No device I've ever seen plays *only* protected WMA. You simply have to be mistaken. Where are you getting your information from? Have you tried to have it play the unprotected WMA?

Edit: Matter of fact, you have to be wrong. This thing plays MP3 or WMA files that have been burned to a Data CD. If the files are burned to a CD, then the player would have no way to get the license information needed to decode the protected WMA.

Your player will only play unprotected WMA. It will not play protected WMA files.

Glad that's resolved. Also, the initial question implied that mp3 files would take up more space for a given quality than WMA. Which - if you were encoding from the start (i.e., not transcoding) is mostly not true.

I'm 100% sure about that, I tried so many times. I telling you surely that you can not play unprotected wma.

To me, that reads like the manual is telling you to use unprotected files..

AlNaimi, please try this:

Take two different audio CDs. Rip them both - to WMA - with Windows Media Player, but one of them with protection and the other one without protection (use the method Andavari described).

Now burn all the WMA files to a CD-R and try to play files from both albums. You will then know for sure which kind of files will play properly. I'm quite convinced the protected files will not play. And, if the unprotected files also don't play properly, something else is wrong (maybe some firmware bugs?)

Could you please perform this test and inform us of the results?

Edit: And I agree with musicmusic: this could simply be an instruction. The full meaning is probably something like: "I cannot play this file, please make sure the file you're trying to play is unprotected". Do you understand what we're getting at?

I checked the owners manual for this player here: http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/store...iceCenter=true#, and on page 32, it says not to create copy protected wma files. That suggests that the wma files you have are already copy protected.

sorry to barge in... but how can i put DRM onto my mp3's after i have encoded them using LAME? I need DRM in order to play on my hd5, otherwise they wont play.

would it be easier to go through SonicStage to add DRM?

As far as I know, the MP3 format is not DRM-capable, which remains one of its distinct advantages.
