Full Version: Is 24-bit equalization possible with fb2k?

As far as I can tell from listening, the default fb2k equalizer reduces the output resolution of 24-bit wav files to 16-bits. I tried switching back and forth from including the equalizer among DSPs to not including it, and there appeared to be a loss of detail and spaciousness with the EQ.

Is there any way to configure fb2k so the equalizer preserves 24-bit resolution? Or are there any plugin equalizers that do the equalization at 24-bit resolution?

Using winamp, I've tried the Shibatch super EQ and fddshow, and in both cases I lost resolution, though I'm not sure I fully know my way around fddshow.

Thanks for any help you can give.

The decoding, Replay Gain, and DSP effects all happen with *higher* than 24bit precision, IIRC.

Your ears are most probably playing tricks on you. To be certain you're not just hearing things, you might want to check out double-blind testing.

All processing used to be in a float64 pipeline, I suppose this is still the case.
