Full Version: MPEG Audio Collection on Linux with Wine

Hi guys,

I am running a Debian Testing computer and I am interested in running MPEG Audio Collection (MAC) with Wine. I downloaded the zip file from the MAC website, unzipped, and ran the program with Wine. The display works smoothly and I haven't tried adding a volume yet.

The weird thing is: I loaded a COL file that I had created on Windows with about 400 volumes but I can only see about ~250 volumes of the total collection under MAC. (Checking the COL with a text editor confirms that I have all 400 volumes in there.) When I search for directories or files, it only gives results available in the ~250 volumes displayed. But when I ask for statisitcs on the COL file, it gives me the total for all the volumes, even the ones I can't see!

Does anyone out there have any insight to share on running MAC on Linux? It's such a great program for my music archiving needs, and I haven't seen anything on Linux that is as full featured.

(I am checking out Gnome Catalog, and while it supports MP3 meta data, it does not support FLACs, MPCs, and the myriad of file formats that MAC supports. Any other suggestions for cataloging my CDR collection?)

Thanks.

Answering my own question ... [after far too long!]

There was a "NUL" value (that's what my editor Scite tells me anyway) in one of my MP3 tags that was provided MAC from reading to the end of my COL database. I removed the value manually, reloaded and now I can see my full COL file. Yay!!!

Also, I used the installer with Wine, and all went smoothly. The first time you run Mac, the display will be all screwy, flashy around and stuff. Just close and re-open and it works properly.

Resurrecting an old thread!

Does anyone out there use MPEG Audio Collection with Wine on a Linux box? (I have to believe that I'm not the only one!) I use it on my Debian box, and I can display my collection no problem, but I can not scan more CDs in. I'd really love to get this working because the Linux programs available for this sort of thing (gtktalog, gwhere) don't have the same functionality and I'd have to scan my collection in again.

Looking for tips and discussion. Thanks.

I just tested it in Wine on FreeBSD, and it seemed to work fine. What is happening when you try to add another CD?

When I click on "Add a CD", I can see the C: drive, the Z: drive and the D: drive which is the CD. It correctly lists the volume label of the CD I have in the drive, but when I try to add it, I receive the message "This volume contains no audio files.", which is incorrect.

Do you mount the CD before running MAC? Perhaps there is a Wine configuration setting I am missing.

make sure you're using the official Wine repo, the version of wine in the debian repos is out of date, they've added quite a few fixes for the scsi emulation since then.

Since I am running Debian Etch (stable) amd64, I was using Wine in a 64 bit chroot running Lenny. So I installed the Wine version from Lenny (0.9.34-1) in my Etch system, and now everything seems to working properly. Thanks for the help guys.
