I got a real good deal on this off of ebay. It didn't come with a manual though

I can't seem to find them online (except for a service manual, which probably won't help me...)
You probably won't get better audio or video because you can't convert a VHS tape to S-VHS and expect to get better results (GIGO). I made this conversion a few years ago but have forgotten just how to do it. Suggest you get the instructions for your sound card and download a trial version of Nero StartSmart. Of course, you'll also need a DVD burner. I recently bought a Panasonic DVD burner that has a hard drive in it. I was easy to plug the VHS player into it and record, edit and burn DVDs of the VHS tapes.
