Hi all...

I am trying to find a program and also its source to convert mp2 audio files to mp3 audio files in Linux environment. If anyone help me in this subject, I would appreciate it.. By the way If anyone knows about lame and ffmpeg and differences of them, pls explain. I mean performance and quickness etc.

Thanks a lot..

LAME'll do. Note: You'll loose quality even if the target mp3 is of a higher bitrate. So: Don't do it unless you have a good reason.

lame --mp2input soandso.mp2 soandso.mp3

Thanks a lot. And Do you know anything about the streaming tools for example: VideoLan, Ffserver and Mpeg for IP? I need mostly the comparison of them( What is the differences between them? )

Because, I am working on a project for streaming mpeg-4 video and mp3 audio on the internet and want to know that which tool can give me best performance and quality?

Any help would be appreciated...

btw, mp3 is backward-compatible, so if the target bitrate isn't an issue, you could simply rename the mp2 to mp3 and get away with it.

*note* i haven't tested this smile.gif. i know winamp and foobar are cool with it, but they're not exactly reference mp3 implemetations.

Ummm... not really. I recall using some programs that complain when they read MP2 files renamed as ".mp3".

Adobe Audition is one of them...
