hi, last topic of the day for me hopefully!

jus wondering if anyone knows how to test images for accurateness??
obv. for individual files there is the accurip, and the eac number thing, but when u hav an image and cuesheet how do u test for accurateness??

if u create two images, and use compare wavs feature in eac, and they are both identical, does this mean they're both accurate??
does 100% copy ok, or watever in eac log mean that an image was definately accurate?

am i being over paranoid??

Cheers

According to André, the next EAC version will support T&C for images ... ;-)

Am I right in saying that Test and Copy simply reads the track, gets the CRC, then rips the track and ensures that the CRCs match?

If so you could just rip the image twice and ensure that the CRC reported in the logs match. I do that on occassion. Edit: Only on the infrequest occassion that I have some supsicions because of the disc or me tarting about with EAC settings.

I believe that André is going to add a test and copy feature for images soon (i.e.: it's high on the list).

i believe so, jus compares two numbers generated for each track i think, if they're the same then its 'accurate', if not the same then who knows!

thanks again! this forum/site is excellent!!

Maybe I also a paranoid, but I used to rip to image twice, at first run in secure mode, than secondly in burst mode, then manually I compare the MD5 checksum of both image. If matching, then I delete one image.

Because of consistent errors you can never be 100% sure about it, but there is a high probability that the rip was accurately extracted from the disc. Just rip as an image + cuesheet, and then rip by range, and then compare the CRC's, and then delete the range rip.

It means that EAC didn't need to do any extra re-readings besides the normal "read-twice" routines(if using non-C2 mode), and this will give you the same secureness as if you had done a burst mode + test & copy rip with matching CRC's. There will be a good chance of the rip is accurately extracted, but consistent errors can slip through on rare ocassions.
