H264 is very complex and CPU-Consuming algoritm. Such encoding time is normal

More quality -> more time. Try a new x264. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=89979
Amazing quality and even slower encoding.

I would act shocked, except that I'm not. I see this complaint over on the Apple forums all the time. h264 is slow to encode. It's processor intensive, it's new and not completely optimized yet, etc, etc. People don't seem to understand that it's not a real time encoder.
