Hi!

I noticed that some players have problems playing mp3 files created with helixmp3 encoder. One of these player, J.River Media Center, released a fixed mp3 decoder to clear this issue.
Changelog says:
Fixed: Media Center MP3 playback no longer hiccups when playing spliced / or slightly invalid MP3 files that have rewind overflows.


So is there a problem with the encoder? What does rewind overflows mean? And spliced?? I only understand slighty invalid, which makes me nervous about my files...

Hope anyone can enlighten me.

I have not heard these terms myself ('cept Sliced), but I think I can deduce that rewind overflows are when the mp3 announces that it's beginning is actually a number of samples before the actual beginning of the file. This is probably done to make gapless playback, as a hack, maybe.

Spliced, means that you cut the mp3 with an mp3 cutter (like pcutmp3) or with a text editor or whatever, and it doesn't have all the samples.
