is warbling effect gone from lame 3.97b2 at 128kbps cbr?
or if it is present, then which of the most recent version doesn't have that problem?
(is it 3.96.1? need to confirm)

(Note/Request: Please no suggestions for V5, V6 or abr)

Which warbling artifact are you talking about? On what samples does it occur?

Gabriel did some work on the CBR/ABR problems at the beginning of 3.97 development.

Still present on 3.97b2, for both ABR (<160 kbps) and VBR (-V5).

thanks so much guru!

i just came through roberto's test for 128 kbps in which lame abr 128 beats all, but even audioactive 128 kbps cbr was at 1nd place (though it was cbr).
unfortunately it was not compared to lame 128kbps cbr.

so until this bug is fixed, which one should I prefer for 128 kbps CBR?
1)audio active
2)lame 3.96.1
(of course lame has beaten AA but it was not CBR. for CBR if u can suggest, please tell me)
or anything else.

Gabriel
=====

when can we expect this problem gone from latest lame? is it likely to be cured in stable? or lame 3.98?
(i'm sick of using more than one encoder for 128kbps and it is a must condition for me crying.gif )
Gabriel
The main question is: are you able to hear it, and is it annoying to you?

answer: 3.97b.
Other encoders don't have this problem, but are often worse than 3.97. Warbling is an occasionnal problem, occuring in some cases. It's annoying, but occurs rarely. Other encoders offer other form of distortions, and more frequently. There are no perfect 128 kbps MP3 encoders. If you want stronger encoders, you should either increase the bitrate or choose a stronger format (such as Vorbis or iTunes AAC).

thank you gabriel and guru.

yes it is annoying.
recently i noticed that it was more apparent in abr 128 than in cbr 128 for the same file.
and for some reasons i must use 128kbps CBR only
thats why i asked.
