When I rip a CD as a MP3 using Windows Media Player, there are datafields for Composer, Conductor, and Record Label. I find being able to sort by these fields to be occasionally useful.

The question is: where does this info come from? Is it on the CD or is this "value-added" info that Microsoft has plugged into its music.msn.com database?

I use EAC to rip lossless (WAV and FLAC) for "serious listening" - is there any way to import these datafields using EAC or FOOBAR (my player of choice for hi-Q rips)?

WMP looks up the info online. I believe there's options for that under "Privacy" in WMP preferences.

You can use freedb with EAC and foobar2000 (with the foo_freedb plugin), which will allow you to look up tracks online, but you won't get all the composer, conductor, record label information that WMP gives you.
