I made this guide a while ago and posted it over at iLounge forums but for some reason never posted it here. Let me know what you guys think of it. smile.gif

exellent. But you might want to provide links for the latest/stable compiles of the codecs and recommended settings plus some quick dirty info which one you recommend! New Lame version is badass compared to the old one (its faster)

Nice, I like how you explain the setup process while giving descriptions of the options, and the file extensions, command lines and encoder names are nicely laid out smile.gif .

Why not take some of the information in your guide and add it to the HA wiki it would be of great help to a lot of folks. wink.gif

May I suggest adding Wavpack to your encoder list?

Here are my EAC settings for both lossless and lossy.

-hm %s %d -w "Artist=%a" -w "Title=%t" -w "Album=%g" -w "Year=%y" -w "Track=%n" -w "Genre=%m" -w "Comment=Exact Audio Copy v0.9ß3 Secure Mode \ Wavpack 4.31ß"

-b600m %s %d -w "Artist=%a" -w "Title=%t" -w "Album=%g" -w "Year=%y" -w "Track=%n" -w "Genre=%m" -w "Comment=Exact Audio Copy v0.95ß3 Secure Mode \ Wavpack 4.31ß -b600m"

Comments are personal options.

Excellent guide! I learned something new about how to handle various artists naming schemes. smile.gif

Great man. Good job. I really liked your guide. You included some elements (the difference between Secure and Test & Copy Mode for example) which are not all together. So if somebody wants to find sth they must search a lot.

Your tutorial is targeted for the "advanced users", right? You tell to download ZIP and setup all options manually.

Perhaps it should be worth to make a separate section also "for beginners" who don't want to mess with the settings. They can download EXE-installer and the wizard should setup the basic options for them. Then your guide could explain to them what features they can use directly and what else they would have to configure manually and refer them to the "advanced" section.

You may want to mention the configuration wizard that gets launched when you use EAC for the first time.

Thank you for all of your feedback smile.gif

I will take your feedback into serious consideration for my guide.

This is why I posted a link to my guide here: to get this excellent feedback!

Excellent guide.. one suggestion:

You may want to put in a very small section about the Normalize tab. Just to prevent newbies from asking what it is and if they should use it. Maybe include a sentence or two about why it's not recommended and how it doesn't help equalize volume levels (that being what replaygain is for)

Why don't you use screenshots showing the setup you are suggesting? I find it much easier to select options following a screenshot plus reading what the settings mean.

If you understand german, there is an excelent how-to at www.eac-audio.de. It's loaded with screenshots and explains almost everything possible. There is also explained how to set up the ripping offset for a drive.
Sgt_Strider
For flac, I guess -q8 means best possible compression?
Apostulate
Only suggestion I can add is some information on the ASPI/ASAPI interface, because I've seen other guides that suggested downloading an alternate interface. As in, does EAC come with one built in, should I download a new version, etc

Great job, though. Peace.

Holy crap, the guide at eac-audio.de is the most detailed I've ever seen. Major kudos to the guy and/or people that put it together. Now all we need are some translations. smile.gif

edit: And check out the bundle with the encoder profiles the guy's put together. Geez, talk about completeness.

I would like to thank all of you for you feedback and apologize for being so late in implementing that feedback into my guide.

I just posted the latest version of my guide to my web site and have implemented a lot of the ideas and feedback you guys gave me. Thank you so much for the help!
