I know SebastianG mentioned a project reguarding Steganography, however I am little to lazy to go out and search for the post though. I am specifically interested in how Steganographic techniques are applied to audio files. I am looking for a pseudo technical description or sombody who can eleborate or explain the process to me. I find it very fascinating, but most techniques are usually applied to image data like 8x8 blocks of DCT coeffcients in imaging codecs like JPEG for instance using bit-shifting, etc. How exactly can you hide information within an audio file would it be stored in the noise created during the quantization error or some other type of statistical noise? Can you store audio packets from one file in another audio file as well? etc? or just plain text data?. I am not trying to design a project to do something like this, I was just curious if anyone ever came across the idea? I was reading a paper on different programs like Steghide that can do this and different algorithms being designed in order to detect things like that. biggrin.gif

Spare me the rhetoric ;-D. You can't really find that much information on it I have already searched the web. My intent was to see if somebody on here was interested in that and could give me an answer. This not your typical "how do I setup EAC with blah..." question either thank you very much. biggrin.gif. I know you have posted in reguard with it before, maybe somebody else might know though. If not that's fine I can waltz through the forum searching.

Just search for the post already. It's not very hard :

Yeah Yeah. You could have just linked me to the post. Thanks rolleyes.gif or added in some input. "Here is how it works.... here is what we know". That's what I was looking for. Anyway... I guess I will just dig through the posts on the forum trying to find a straight-forward answer. Edit:

mp3 steganography tools scramble the data, then put it in the lower MDCT coefficients (inside the music) but below the ATH & SMR.

A well-done steganography inside pictures or sounds, CAN be statistically detected (in theory) because it's always a tiny bit more random than the music's LSBs (=least significant bits). If it can be detected, it can be degraded (to the point where it's destroyed and unusable) - but the encrypted data itself would most certainly stay uncrackable (if encrypted properly before being embedded)."

That's what I was looking for, I think that partially explains it. Basically the data is hidden during Psychoacoustics masking? interesting.
