Basically, I'm thinking of shooting for a pair of headphones - around $150 - but worth the money. The best headphones I've been able to try were a pair of AKG-240s ones, extremely comfortable, with a good high and low response, but IMHO the midrange didn't seem any better than the MDR-A110 headset I'm using.
The general purpose of these would be for home listening, using an Audigy 2 NX, to pretty much every kind of music from rock to classical to new age music. (Anything but rap and country, but probably some stuff approaching that.
I've heard good things about the HD-280 and the HD-555 headphones, but I'm wary of buying anything that I can't try. (Only one of the AKG-240 reviews I was ever able to find said anything that suggested the midrange might be lacking.)
Any help/pointers would be appreciated.
Edit: Oh, and durability would probably be a big plus, as I'd like to be able to use these for a couple years and, if they're good enough, may want to use them for something a bit more professional.
