I'm having (well, have had for quite a while now) a bit of dilemma when it comes to self entitled albums. Which is the more correct way of naming them:

ARTIST: Audioslave
ALBUM: Audioslave

vs

ARTIST: Audioslave
ALBUM: Self Entitled

Thanks. smile.gif

Good question. I would "asume" that setting both, the artist and album tag to identical values would be the "proper" way.

However, for whatever reason i think that looks stupid and thus use "self-titled" instead.

YMMV.

Me too. For me it seems like the correct way (after all, in most cases the name of the album isn't self-titled). Plus it's better for searching the DB, and you can always set your title formatting string to show "self-titled" when ARTIST and ALBUM are identical.

I'm curious - care to explain why?

Food for though: "Self titled" (and "Self untitled" tongue.gif) by Stuart Davis. For contrast: the self-titled album from Sub7even (just one of many examples).

If you don't like guessing, I prefer to fill in the album tag of self-titled albums with the actual album name (that is the name of the group/artist), and not with a description of the album name ("self-titled").

I use the actual album name, and can't think of a single reason why I'd want to change that. Keep the correct, true, accurate album name stored in the tag, and if it bothers you, you can easily have it display as "Self-titled" as Anza said.

$if($strcmp(%album%,%artist%),Self-titled,%album%)
