Hello.
i just started to play with ogg and stumbled about 3 things i want to ask.
1. Is it safe to add a lower lowpass manualy or is there the danger to introduce problems?
2. Does i have to imagine Vorbis is clipping the same amount as lame mp3s do or is a 98% scalefactor while encoding enough? If it isnīt ->
3. Is there an easy way to decode an entire album the way a max_no_clipping, mp3gained album will?
Thanks in advance!

Unless there is good reason, it is generally not recommended. The default settings are a result of lots of tuning so shifting this value may introduce undesirable effects.

Thanks! There is no good reason but space. If tunings relate to the lowpass i will strictly leave my fingers from this switch!

Have you found the replaygain utility for vorbis yet? I think it's called vorbisgain... Of course the kitchen sink foobar2000 can do the replaygain analysis as well.

Sure i found it. But i donīt get how to decode an album at the maximum not clipping volume.
I have an old fashioned CD-Player in my car and sometimes want to take an encoded album and decode it. This should work without try and error.
Thanks ErikS! I was to ignoring regarding foobar. This tool has it all. A really mighty application meanwhile.

With Foobar2000, after RG scanning you can manually set gain to 0.00 dB and leave the peak album value intact.
When decoding you have to check the use peak info to scale down tracks taht still clip after applying replaygain option.

My idea would have been to set the pre-amp really really high and just turn on the clip-prevent in the replaygain options, but I guess this works fine too.

I was wrong, obviously you have to set gain to a great positive value and not to 0.00 dB .
I select all files after they are gained -> decode -> select Replaygain processing -> more options ... -> Source mode: album Processing: prevent clipping according to peak.
Seems to work perfect!
Thanks for the input!

Question is, does this bring down the gain for the whole album, or just the tracks which clip?
If it's the latter, then it's throwing the album's dynamics off.
I think, don't bother with "max no-clip gain". Just do everything with the standard replaygain settings. This way none (or very, very little) of your music will clip, and it will all sound about the same volume.

It works like intended on the whole album.
