I have a rather substantial number of CD's that I have ripped onto my hard drive in Apple Lossless format using iTunes. I am looking to convert these files to an mp3 format using LAME (I do not like the AAC format... sounds a bit "sterile" to my ears... tried LAME on EAC and like what I hear seems warmer/fuller. To test out the LAME encoder, I converted some files from Apple Lossless to WAV then used EAC / LAME to make the MP3. When the conversion was finished, the files no longer had the id3 tags. Also, I had to go folder by folder to convert files... Lossless files are in folders by artist/album.

Net is that I am looking for a way to automate this this process. Ideal would be to read in all folders, take Apple Lossless and convert, using LAME to MP3... if an intermediate step of creating WAV files, then create / destroy w/ each file conversion. I could also use iTunes to create WAV's in mass, then let another program do the rest. Finally, need to preserve all of the ID3 tags that are in original files.

What front end for LAME would give me this functionality.

Sorry about the comments about AAC vs LAME. 1st time poster . I did search, but did not find exactly what I was looking for.
