Full Version: Musicbrainz Tags before Encoding to Apple Lossless

I was wondering if there is any way to apply Musicbrainz tags instead of downloading them from FreeDB while ripping CDs in EAC. This would be very cool as I would like to rip my CDs to Apple Lossless (unsupported by MB) and get the proper tags from MB also.

I'd really like to avoid the 3-step solution of encoding to FLAC, MB tagging, and then dBpowerAmp-ing to Apple Lossless. tongue.gif Any ideas?

Thanks for the help everyone! smile.gif

I have no ideas for the MusicBrainz tagging issue, but I've found allmusic.com to be super accurate, at least for U.S. releases. The GodFather can grab, via a script, a page from AMG, load it in and tag your files with all the Composer, Style, Mood, Genre, Date, Artist, Review, Title, Track, etc... Lots of information to be sure. This works best with individual tracks as opposed to the single file/cue method.

Alright, well doesn't look like there is any ripper that does this (other than Sound Juicer) so I'll look for other solutions...

Is there some way I can:
  1. rip w/ EAC,
  2. using mareo to convert to FLAC,
  3. pause so I can load the FLAC files into MB Tagger and apply the tags manually,
  4. and finish by converting the FLAC files to Apple Lossless?

I have very little scripting experience so would you guys mind offering some help? Is it even possible to get Mareo to convert the FLAC files to Apple Lossless as opposed to the wav files created by EAC? Any suggestions?

I don't have any experience using Mareo, but I have used Otto's iTunesencode script (if you can still find it) with Foobar to convert FLAC to ALAC and it worked great. The Foobar parameters looked something like this: -e "Lossless Encoder" -a "%artist%" -l "%album%" -t "%title%" -g "%genre%" -y %date% -n %tracknumber% -i %s -o %d

Take a look around http://www.rarewares.org. Check the AAC section.
