Full Version: importing new songs into itunes

Does anybody know a good way to import new songs into itunes? What I want to do is specify a directory, and import any songs in it (which are not already in the itunes DB).
If you do this in itunes, it will add the new songs and also all old songs as duplicates.
I found 2 ways to to this:

1)do a find on the directory, showing only the files with a create timestamp after a certain date. Then drag and drop them into itunes. This works well, but is annoying and prone to error.
2) there are several programs available which do this, but all of them are really slow.

I was hoping, since itunes is completely scriptable, that somebody has a vbscript to accomplish this?

iTunes won't add a file if the same file is already in the iTunes library. If you have renamed or moved it, then yes, you'll get duplicates. Or if you happen to have iTunes copying files to it's own library directory and you're adding them from another directory.. same thing. But if you drag a file that iTunes already knows the exact location of, it won't add it again.

It'd be pretty sweet if iTunes kept a database, like wxMusik, and could automatically update!
