Hello,
I just want to thank all the supporters of OptimFROG which encouraged me to make OptimFROG better and better, over the time. All this started four years ago, when the first public OptimFROG version, 4.0b (OptimFROG40.ZIP) was released on 16.12.2001, providing at that time on average 1.5-2% better compression that any other lossless audio compressor.
That version introduced a new audio compression technology, the generalized stereo decorrelation concept (together with the optimal predictor). A few months after that, after some discussions, a simpler variant (yet powerful enough) of the new concept was implemented in Monkey's Audio (and later on adopted in LA). Therefore, I can proudly say that Monkey's Audio and LA owe some of their success to OptimFROG.
Regarding near future prospects, the next OptimFROG version which will come in at most 2 months (worst case) and will have:
- significantly improved compression [done, integrating into mainstream OFR]
- creation of self extracting archives, 30kB only SFX code for Windows [90%]
- ID3v2 tags support [90%]
- utility for gapless joining of multiple OptimFROG files [50%]
Also, I want to say that OptimFROG was successfully ported (with small modifications) on PocketPC (HP iPaq Pocket PC H4150), where it worked without any problem.
As I said before, the development of OptimFROG will greatly accelerate, and multiple things are on their way:
- multichannel support
- cue sheet support
- Darwin/MacOS and PocketPC port
- Adobe Audition plug-in
- integrated GUI interface and automated installer with plug-ins
- recovery of data from severely broken files
- something completely different and new ;-)
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have an idea or feature proposal about you think it will enhance OptimFROG.
What is needed and appreciated (what you can contribute):
- it would be great to have extended support (more
plug-ins for other players, sound editing tools)
As always, you can reach OptimFROG lossless audio compressor and its SDK at

Thank you again,
Florin Ghido
