Dude, that's cheating, if you don't know what to look for and don't hear a difference then it's the same to you, if you know what to look for and hear something different chances are it could be placebo.

You have got to be kidding me.

Umm...

It's only "cheating" if this is going on during a listening test.

If you'd been around during the tuning of many audio codecs on this forum in the past, you'd know that often time it is quite common for someone (including myself) to ask for an explanation of the problem that the original poster heard. There's nothing cheating about this at all, because there's no "contest."

And as for placebo, you rule that out with ABX, which as a testing methodology is indifferent to whether or not you have been told beforehand about an artifact or whether you "discovered" it on your own -- all it measures is whether you can detect it with a specified degree of reliability.

Thanks dibrom. If this were a "contest" iīd have lost smile.gif
Seems like skelly831 is bored of explanations. It has to be a really annoying artifact i donīt get.

I've listened this Darius Gaiden soundtrack for many times (because I love this soundtrack)... maybe this is the reason that why I can hear the differences.

The biggest difference is in the very beginning, the first synthesizer tone, the lossless one has very "fast" (or hard?) attack (is this called transient? my English is no good) and the mp3 has a very little "fade in" artifact.

I am really not very good at ABX, at most time I can't ABX lame xtreme, vorbis q7, mpc xtreme but this piece of music is really special for me. So I just post and share it.

You canīt ABX Vorbis Q7 and mpc xtreme most tme? Well wtf... who can all the time? smile.gif
I like you offer this sample here, even if there is no backup till now. Maybe skelly831 has no problem with this.
I remember me offering the birds sample 2 years ago and got no backup. Meanwhile the newer lame versions get the problem more obvious and other people can hear it.
So feel free to offer your findings!

My bad.
