Any utils available for doing the following:

Detecting embedded pictures/jpgs.

Detecting generalized tags, comments.

Transforming a certain tag into another format.

What I'd like to do is to recurse folders, displaying files
that meet the criteria above, and showing just those
files.

even if you can't change it now, your title is violating TOS #6:

6. All members that create new threads must use a topic title which is understandable and describes the content of the thread properly. Furthermore, all new threads must be started in the correct forum categories, and posted only once -- in the appropriate category -- throughout the entire forum. Double posts will be removed, and threads with inappropriate topics will be moved. A member that continue violates this rule may be subject to administrative action.

(that type of titles is very annoyng really)

It's common nowadays to see people just register to get quick answers and then leave indefinitely, sometimes without even thanking anyone that has helped.

Anyway, try Mp3tag.
And yes, I too hate that kind of thread title that you used...

If in doubt, assume the worst. As you see, I did come back. I just
found this forum so I don't know if I will be staying or not. Folks here
seem friendly enough so far. <g>

Thanks.

Folks here are friendly if you abide by the rules, reasonable, and of course, friendly. wink.gif

Sorry if I had offended you in some way with my last post, but I do hope that you found Mp3tag useful. =)

Quite alright. Yes, MP3Tag does some very cool stuff. I guess another appropriate question would be what group of programs do avid MP3 collectors use. It seems that there are a few that keep getting mentioned, but I'm not sure which others (aside from MP3Tag) cover the odd cases.

I'm trying to deal with a lot of odd tags including some custom tags from JRiver MediaCenter. They're basically just comments retrofitted with some null-terminated fields, but I doubt that anyone but JRiver will parse the extended
fields intelligently. I'll probably end up writing code to do that but I'm apprehensive about possible screwups to thousands of MP3s (I've heard stories about even commercial programs making an occasional blunder).

About the post header, I was asking for several different functions and couldn't figure out how to jam a more descriptive request into one line. Sorry.

I'll have to take a closer look. Tag&Rename has great features to be sure. I used it a while ago for tagging individual files and thought it didn't deal with some of the fields I needed. Probably changed by now.

Go for Tag&Rename. Had a similar need some time ago, googled, found a few programs, and stayed with Tag&Rename. It's the best one if you ask me.
Not freeware though. But worth it =]
