So I got an iAudio X5L for x-mas, I'm thinking of using OGG for my files, its sound pretty good for the file size. I just wanted to know in OGG what quality level is considered to reach transparency and what would be my best bet for quality per size.

Thanks

Vorbis reach transparency normaly at -q5 (150-170 kbps).

For portable players, -q4 (aprox. 128kbps) is good enough even -q2 if you donīt have an especial ear (this are only my opinion).

One last thing... Ogg is a container, Vorbis is the audio format... is not right say simply "OGG" because Ogg can hold FLAC, Speex and Theora that is the video format. wink.gif

Basically, you have to work it out for yourself. Generally -q4 is fine for me, but for some music even -q0 is good enough.

While you're figuring out what quality is suitable for your situation you may want to take a look at Recommended Encoder Versions and Settings.

IMHO, you can't miss with the aoTuV compile and -q 5 switch.
Extremely good quality, relatively small file size.

Yeah, while listening I was leaning towards Q5. Thanks guys for the help, and I'll remember that and say OGG Vorbis from now on biggrin.gif

Just 'Vorbis' would do fine... =)
