Full Version: Problem w/ EAC and AccurateRip

Howdy,
I've just installed the AccurateRip plug-in into EAC 0.95 beta 3 (configured as per The ESSENTIAL Ripping Guide by liekloo) and it has somehow modified my main profile (a customized version of the one downloadable from here): now every time I load EAC the last column to the right says "Pre-Emphasis" instead of "Copy Protection" and ripping is very slow with more error correction.
If I force another load of my profile the rightmost column reverts to "Copy Protection" and ripping goes back to fast and error correction free.
It seems AccurateRip has disabled the automatic load of the the EAC profile I configured it with in its entirety, that is it alters a part of it by default.
Checking the whole EAC configuration manually I can't find any modifications (except for the fact that the read offset correction can't be manually modified anymore, but that's normal I've read), though when I force a second load of the same profile something does change (besides the "Pre-Emphasis"->"Copy Protection" column switch), as ripping speed and error correction resume behaving normally.
Anyone knows what's going on please?

Thank you.

Dc

Hi
You might try the following. It fixed a problem I had that EAC was not recognizing any of the Accuraterip KeyDiscs. But I do remember seeing the same Pre-Emphasis/Copy Protection Column change you describe.
(I had previously installed AccurateRip but had stopped using it. The problem showed up when I changed my CD drive and I trued to start using Accuraterip again)
After uninstalling AccurateRip, open the registry and search for "Accuraterip". I found a folder labelled "Illustrate" with several values referring to Accuraterip. Delete the entire folder and reinstall Accuraterip. In my case, I was then able to get EAC to recognize KeyDiscs, measure the offset on my new drive and use Accuraterip. The PreEmphasis/Copy protection issue has gone away as well.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I had already cleaned the registry from all AccurateRip and EAC references, anyway I've now restored a Ghost image with a fully functioning EAC, no AccurateRip for now, can live without it.

I'd love to have liekloo's take on this...

Hi DARcode,

I'm afraid I can't help here, and am curious too what could explain these things. Does anyone know something more about this?

Darcode, after seeing your question I've had a look on my own computer. I've recently changed OS from win2k to winXP. Your question is the first opportunity for me to use EAC under winXP.
Interestingly, just like you I experienced the same thing regarding the modified column 'Pre-emphasis/Copy-protection'. For the rest however everything is OK: I didn't have any of the inconveniences you mentioned (offset & drive behaviour).

Thank you for having a look into this.

What do you make of the column switch anyway? I mean, does EAC show the presence of copy protection or pre-emphasis?
Also, I've noticed it happens only with the profile downloadable from your brilliant guide, not with one created from scratch, so could it be you created that with a previous EAC version and Andre has changed something?

DARcode
liekloo, any clues regarding the causes to the above described bizarre profile behaviour please?

Thank you.
DARcode
liekloo, spare a minnit to answer my post @8 q's please?
Would appreciate it greatly, thanks.

My apologies for the long delay, DARcode. I hadn't forgotten, but have been postponing for too long - life has been busy lately. I'm currently working my way through an inbox-full of Hydrogenaudio new topic notifications. wink.gif

After some investigation I think it is normal to see a Pre-emphasis column after EAC startup. It is true that my guide has a screenshot with a Copy-protection column, but that must be because I manually loaded a profile just before the extraction (which reverts the column as you stated earlier).
The EAC guide at the Coaster Factory too shows a Pre-emphasis column in one of its screenshots.
Can you confirm that? What is the rightmost column labeled like, right now with your restored EAC (don't load any profile): Pre-emphasis or Copy-protection ?

The greyed out offset area in Drive Options is normal as well. It's typical for the latest AccurateRip plugin as I've found (I had been using a previous version), and it makes sense.

BTW I've found a must-read thread about that Pre-emphasis column. It's something I didn't know myself.

Anyway, we're still left with your slow drive speed that occured after installing AccurateRip. Later tonight I will create & link to a new profile (created from scratch). Is there any chance you could try it out?

P.S. you might want to make a ghost image first wink.gif

DARcode, in order to find out whether AccurateRip is causing the problem or the EAC profile is, I'd do the following:
(you might want to make a Ghost backup first)

1. remove EAC, including the accuraterip plugin.
Also remove the registry entries of EAC and AccurateRip. An easy way to do so is: install Regcleaner. On the first tab (Software) you choose search and what you search for is EAC and illustrate. The entires you'll find are AWSoftware - EAC and Illustrate - dBPowerAmp. Select these and press 'remove selected' (at the bottom).

2. Install EAC, set the drive features (either by following the wizard which will pop up, or by skipping it, going to Drive Options and enabling secure mode and correctly setting the 3 drive options for your drive: accurate stream, caching and c2). What you now have is a working EAC (does it rip fluently?). After this you install the AccurateRip plugin and see whether it still rips as fast/fluently. If the answer is no, it must be the AccurateRip plugin which is causing the trouble, in which case we'll contact Spoon (the developer, who's a regular here).

3. If the answer was yes, remove EAC & AccurateRip again and set them up again, this time using a profile of your own (e.g. a profile created in the previous step), this one I've created from scratch, or the one currently linked to from my guide. In case you use one of mine, you'll have to adapt the 3 Drive Options mentioned above to your drive.

Thank you very much for your help, I merely bumped up the thread a couple of times in case you were too tangled up in something else to bother remembering about this pesky HA poster blush.gif.

I confirm the last column to the right says "Pre-Emphasis" when I load up EAC and switches to "Copy Protection" when I reload the custom E S S E N T I A L profile (I say reload cause all the other settings are reatined between EAC shutdowns), but I'm still confused (sorry crying.gif): does EAC actually show the presence of pre-emphasis or copy protection please?

Thank you so much for the new profile (could you please advise what's changed? Simply recreated the same with a newer EAC build?), gonna test it tomorrow morning the latest (prolly gonna be able to this evening already) and let you know.

Your time and support are very much appreciated (man, I luv HA.org laugh.gif!).

EDIT: recated -> recreated.

Oh there is really nothing pesky to it wink.gif We're gonna figure this out together. smile.gif

I've edited my previous post, adding instructions on how to find out whether the trouble was due to the profile or to Accuraterip. The new profile I created from scratch can be considered identical to the one from my guide. One change is that Drive Options has now Spin up drive before extraction checked, which wasn't the case in the previous profile, though it better had as it is is important for (very few) old drives. Along the way I noticed that the new EAC has an option to look for an alternative freedb server if the current one is unreachable. So I checked that too.

Yes the Pre-Emphasis column truely reflects pre-emphasis. The Copy-Protection column is of no practical value for our purposes. It has nothing to do with nowadays copy-control systems such as Cactusdata. It's a remainder of the DAT era (more info here.

Okay, it's taken me a bit longer'n expected (sorry), but I think I've found the culprit: a still to be determined M$ Windows Update (how unusual, eh? dry.gif).

Instead of cleaning the registry (I'm familiar with the procedure and prefer to do it manually without any additional tools after backing up the whole of it, yup: I'm a tad paranoid) I've used a clean WinXP SP2 install (bare OS, no drivers except for the SATA RAID5 one [necessary to install Windows on my 3-drive array] and no applications besides EAC): both your profiles (regular and test) work fine and AccurateRip too, the problems start when I install all the critical security patches and fixes from Windows Update.
I've still got to determine which one it is, as you can imagine insatlling one by one and testing EAC is a pretty time consuming affair.

On a side note, the test profile you've uploaded still causes the 'Pre-emphasis/Copy-protection' column switch, no big deal.

Anyway, thank you very much indeed for your time and help, really appreciated.
If there's anything I can help you out with (I'm a network admin with good Windows OS's and relative applications knowledge) don't hesitate to PM me.

I found out it's normal behaviour. So if it didn't happen it would be worth noting. biggrin.gif

Case closed I suppose - see you around smile.gif
