Interesting... Not surprising, though.

Comparisons of different masterings for the same record would be more interesting, IMHO. wink.gif

True,

i am gonna make the same analysis between an original and a remastered on a "best of" edition. I think i will choose Red Hot Chili Peppers "Higher Ground".

I think for some bands a reasonable amount of dynamic compression can be a very good thing, but when it reaches the point where it constantly slams against 0dB then there's problems.

Albums I find reasonably compressed include:

Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Nirvana - Nevermind
Nirvana - In Utero (there does seem to be a clipping sound on the drums, but I'm sure this was intentional and really suits the music, and you can still hear the "impact" of the drums rather than a weak "pop" sound)
Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
Moby - Play (pretty good for a 1999 release)
Run D.M.C. - Greatest Hits

Note I'm slightly concerned my post might be off-topic. My apologies if it is. Perhaps others would be willing to do more in-depth analyses of these albums than I'm capable of?
