Full Version: px100s deteriorating over time

I've had a pair of Sennheiser PX 100s for a couple of years and I've been thinking for a while that they've lost some top and especially mid-range. I bought another pair for my gf for Christmas and have been able to confirm that mine are much more muddy than her new pair.

The difference is quite marked. Should this happen over two years and is there anything I can do to fix it short of buying a new pair?

Cheers, Robert.

Maybe they're dirty. I'm not sure you can do much about that, seeing the headphone model and type. If you want a long term investment, I suggest looking at slightly more expensive ones (HD280 Pro?) Or go for more robust ones (still Sennheiser, HD201 s)

Er, neither of these sets are really appropriate for portable applications (I use the px100s with my iPod on the train). How do you mean "dirty"? How (and where) will dirt affect the sound?

Has nobody else had similar experience with the sound quality on a pair of 2 year old px100s degrading noticably?

Cheers, Robert.

Again er no, there's nothing wrong with my ears.

So nobody else has had a similar experience with 2 year old headphones?

Cheers, Robert.

I stopped using PX100 when I noticed some vibrations on low bass (below 60hz). The level of the sound wasn't that high and didn't add any fx (eq, eax, ...). These vibrations only occurred in one ear. I tried with another px100 from a friend, same problem but in the other ear (however my friend couldn't notice it). No prob with others headphones (px200, etys 4S, ...).

I had problems with buzzing in the bass and it was due to hairs that made their way in beetween the foams and drivers which I removed and the problem was solved.

PX100 have been thought to have a pretty dark sound and mildly bloated in the bass. Perhaps Sennheiser fixed these issues later on, who knows.

Mine are about 1 1/2 years old - Haven't noticed any deterioration, but then again I don't have another fresh pair to compare to.

i also got a new and an old pair of px100s. I also noticed it when i started using the new ones. So i compared them again and the old pair does indeed have a louder bass. I think the bass also goes lower than the new one. And it doesn't goes as high. ohmy.gif

i completely agree with m1ndsurfer

Maybe you should apply the procedure as described in http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....03&#entry342503
(Just kiddin' ...)
