Full Version: Buffer Setting Question

Is fb2k capable playing back source (say from a CD) while simultaneously ripping tracks ? Did a quick search and found lots of note-worthy stuff but nothing directly pertained to buffer config or whatever else may need to be tweaked.

WMP10 handles with ease but I'd rather support this fine player. (v0.8.3)

Cheers

Simultaneously extracting a cd while playing it back is generally not recommended, no matter which program you're using.

Other than that you're free to rip / replaygain / encode / whatever while playing music in the background.

Ok....outside of this faux-pas* , how do you accomplish listening while recording in foobar? Current settings are: 1 sec. buffer lenght - wave out, thread priority set to max.

* not recommended because ? bleed, CPU load, signal-to-noise? Not disagreeing, just wondering. I record lot's through an EMU card while monitoring.

rip/encoding has itīs own thread so the player still accept playing commands.

Because the rip will be much slower than expect.

CD drives are fast reading sequenced sectors but perform slow with randon sector. When you rip and listen the same CD at the same time, two separated reads action are done, what is the same as reading randon sectors. This happens because CD drives have only one head.

Indeed, that's what I was thinking of as well.

Do note that simultaneous recording + monitoring on the one hand and simultaneous "ripping"/extracting + playing a cd on the other hand are very different tasks. In the latter case, one and the same device needs to read from two different positions at once, while in the former audio data is being read/generated only once.
