And tell me why is it so?
Thank you very much.

I recommend the most recent daily build from rarewares (http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/ go to programs, ogg, and it is at the top). Not because it is better than the official compile (from www.vorbis.com) in any quality sense, but because it is faster (compiled with ICL6), and comes with vorbisgain (the replaygain application software for ogg vorbis)
Of course, this all assumes you are using win32. Otherwise, not a clue =)

Otherwise, you could try http://www3.sympatico.ca/ix42/oggenc.zip (as mentioned in another thread), which has a unicode patch applied, but I haven't personally tried it.

Regarding the compile with Vorbisgain support, is its use documented somewhere? For example, how does one impliment "album referenced" gain for a command-line for a single encode??? blink.gif

I think you misunderstood Gnoshi. The encoder he linked to doesn't have Vorbisgain support. He linked to a zip package that includes "oggenc.exe" & "vorbisgain.exe". AFAIK, there is no single program that encodes to OGG & applies VorbisGain at the same time.

I like to use Speek's frontend Oggifier for applying VorbisGain to OGGs.

To understand the command lines, use Speek's frontend and hit the "?" next to the switches section on the VorbisGain tab. Or goto the directory where you downloaded VorbisGain and type "VorbisGain" and it will spit out all the instructions.

EDIT: or see this thread.

You can find the latest builds compiled every day here : http://www.din.or.jp/~glit/TheOddStage/Pro...utobuild_e.html

There's no guarantee that these daily builds are bug free. I wouldn't use those for any serious encoding.
