Hi, I have been lurking here for a while, and used the search every time I got a question, but now I can't find the answer.

I need a portable recorder and microphone to make high-quality recordings of liveshows and I seek any recommendations.

I have not followed the development of recorders at all for like ten years, so I don't know what is state-of-the-art today. Do you have harddisk recorders or still DAT tapes or what? What are some specific recommendations, both for recorder and microphone?

I am not sure of the price range as I have about six months before I need it so I can save up if needed, but lets just say I expect it to be in the range 5-600 $/Euros. If your recommendation is somewhat more expensive let me know anyway.

http://www.soundprofessionals.com is a greta place for looking to such devices. After knowing their "existence", you can search by them at google, specially reviews.

This is a forum more dedicated to live show taping, you'll probably find a lot of info there.

From what i've heard DAT recorders are on their way out and more and more being replaced by harddisk recorders and HiMD.

Thanks for responses. I have studied taperssection now, and f.y.i. I have compared with my local dealer and have settled on this:

DPA 4061 Mic

M-Audio Microtrack Recorder

This is approx. within my budget, and both seems to have a nice reputation.
