Hi,
Really hope somebody will take the time to get back to me.
I've installed a Chaintech AV710 on my pc. XP, SP2.
I run the cable from the pc to my receiver.
It's been like that for almost a year. No problems.
I installed the AV710 and now if I play music through the pc, it only comes from 1 speaker.
Makes no difference where I insert the mini plug onto the sound card.
I can't get anything out of foobar with this card, even though I followed the directions.
This problem is occuring through Winamp.
Thanks in advance for any help.

So the cable worked fine with your old (onboard?) card? And if you replug it there now, it still works fine? If so, your new card may be faulty (I can't imagine you've fiddled with the drivers so much as to disable one channel).

What special settings in foobar are you using? Especially, what's in the "playback" section of preferences?

Meant as constructive criticism: I came across some other threads you opened, and would like to suggest that, if people help, you do post back to those threads to either report that it did or did not work. They would appreciate it (I'm in one of those too smile.gif)

Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm inclined to think you're right about the card being defective. If I put my ear right on the 'silent' speaker cover, I can hear just barely a very low volume whisper of sound. Can't even call it music.
So out it comes and back it goes.
Also, the problem with FB2K was my fault. I downloadedthe normal version instead of the special.
Thanks again.

Plugging the minijack into your portable CD gives you stereo? And you have tried jiggling around the minijack to check it's not a contact problem?

That happened to a friend of mine's XP machine. I don't recall his hardware configuration, all i know is Windows Update updated his driver and after that only one speaker worked. He thought it was hardware and checked connections but in the end nothing but a driver rollback fixed the problem. Typical.

Thanks everybody for yourhelp.
I installed the X-Fi that I was supposed to get rid of.
Now I have stereo again. Music coming out of both speakers.
