Heyy guys & girls,

i have a question concerning to FLAC:

i got a FLAC - audiofile (one file, but the album has 19 songs) and i got a cuesheet with the information of that album in it .. now my question is, how can i split the FLAC - file into the 19 songs and the other question is, can i, or rather is it recommendable, to convert the FLAC - file(s) into e.g. a standard LAME - file?!

thanks and greetings

I use foobar2000 for that.
Possible? Yes!
Recommendable? It very much depends. Lossless is by definition better than lossy, so if you have the space on your HD keep the FLAC and convert to MP3 for everyday usage if you find it more convenient to you.

smz is right on the money, though if playback on portable devices or DJing for example are your main goals simply transcode to any format you prefer, but I'd strongly suggest to keep the original FLAC image.

Okay thanks for the answers!! .. so it doesnt matter in what format i transcode the FLAC (i think ogg will be best but my DPA does not support :\) .. and how i get it done to split the one FLAC image into the 19 songs of the CD?!

thanks and regards

Just like smz said, Foobar can do it. Just open the .cue-file with it, and foobar will handle the album as split tracks. If you do a convert, Foobar encodes each split file separate. If you are unfamiliar with Foobar, please refere to the many guides to it on this site.

When i put the .cue - file into foobar, the console pops up and i got an error like this (19 times -> /ERROR (foo_input_std) : referenced file doesn't exist/):

QUOTE
INFO (foo_looks) : Initializing GDI+
INFO (CORE) : startup time: 4188 ms
ERROR (foo_input_std) : referenced file doesn't exist
ERROR (foo_input_std) : referenced file doesn't exist
[...]
ERROR (foo_input_std) : referenced file doesn't exist

..after clicking on one of the files (there are 19 of them cause the album has 19 tracks and if i open the .cue - file with an editor the information seem to be right) i got another error like this:

QUOTE
INFO (CORE) : opening file for playback :
INFO (CORE) : location: "file://D:\~\CDImage.cue" (1)
ERROR (foo_input_std) : referenced file doesn't exist
ERROR (CORE) : error opening file for playback :
INFO (CORE) : location: "file://D:\~\CDImage.cue" (1)

.. if it helps to solve the problem i can post the content of the .cue - file here too,
btw the .cue - file and the FLAC file are in the same directory ..

thanks and greetings

Open the .cue file and check to see if the filename extension is still .wav as it needs to be .flac. Common thing is to rip and create a cue sheet, but not change the extension within the cue.

Hey thanks, it worked!! .. saved my life, thank you : ))
so, i think i'll get the rest of converting done now by myself, thanks to all of you, for helping me!!
