Why does being awake for 24+ hours give the impression that my hearing has jumped a level higher in whatever it was before, everything sounds so much better, treble that is present just isnt around when one is well-rested.

I dont get this, is there a science behind it?

I remember reading a study that showed staying awake for long periods of time can cause hysterical behavior in people.

hysteria - a psychoneurosis marked by emotional excitability and disturbances of the psychic, sensory, vasomotor, and visceral functions without an organic basis.

That could be a cause I suppose?

After a substancial level of sleep deprivation, your perception is altered. You think that everything you are hearing is brighter. But consider even simple things like walking. Don't you feel that your moves are now different when walking, as if you were smoothy moving in a mindly-pleasing way?

The reality is quite different. You would badly fail in audio blind tests, and worst, you are unlikely to avoid sudden obstacles when walking.
