Full Version: DBPowerAmp transcoding warning

I found out that if a file is already ReplayGained, if you convert it using dBPowerAmp, the volume of the resulting file will be adjusted permanently!

So if you want to transcode a file using dBPowerAmp, you have to first remove the ReplayGain values, transcode, and then compute the ReplayGain again.

WinLAME does not exhibit this behavior. I haven't tested MediaCoder yet.

Considering there is no replaygain code within dBpowerAMP I find it hard to see how it is managing to use replay gain and adjust the files on conversion, the next release (R12) will have replay gain reading / writing abilities - although it will be disabled for transcoding.

No it doesn't. I converted all my replaygained FLAC files to MP3 and it just transfers the replaygain info which i double checked by looking at the information of the MP3 in foobar2k.

I can tell you they're not altered permanently as they're definitely not replaygained on my ipod and the quiet albums are still quiet!

Hmm... that's strange. Does it have to do with the format plugins?

I'll check it out again. Reports soon to come.

it probably has to do with whatever you are playing back the files with... one with replaygain.. one without

At first I thought that. But when I check with Audition, the resulting file's waveform is definitely an attenuated (approx -8 dB) version of the original's.

I strip out the ReplayGain tags, and after encoding, the resulting file's waveform is similar (in amplitude) with the original's

I will check further so please hold on...

try decoding both files to wav with dBpowerAMP.. then open those in audition
