Hi,
I've just bought a new amp and speakers for my bedroom, the wharfedales are a lot bigger than I expected and unfortuanatley are not magnetically shielded... Due to the lack of room I have to put them next to my tv along with the amp, can this cause long term problems? I'm concerned about the tv and mp3 cd player being so close to the speakers.

There is not interferance on the tv screen with the speakers this close and no audible problems with any of the equipment. I moved the mp3 cd player from on top of the amp as I read it could be bad.

I've whipped up a little picture in paint so you get an idea as too how it is setup. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I think 10 inches are safe.

I've had two 8 inch sub-woofers a few inches away from the rear of my tv, and other equipment for over five years and have never experienced a problem -- no distorted pictures on the tv, and no ruined vcr tapes.

Look for distorted colors at the edges of the tv screen. If there isn't any, you should be ok.

thanks for the help, hopefully it'll be ok. I'm thinking of buying a widescreen soon which may have problems as the gap will be much smaller, fingers crossed smile.gif

P.S Any comments about the mp3 player or should it be ok? When I had it on the amp it was fine but if I moved it while playing it made a strange humming noise. Nothing to do the the cd playback itself, it seemed like it was interfering with the amp.

Remember that most TVs don't have a degauss function. So, if you get rainbow colors at the sides of the screen, it might be too late. Degaussing at the electronics store will cost money.

Once I put a non-shielded speaker on top of my Trinitron set. I was rewarded with the telltale rainbow colors. I thought I screwed up big time because the colors remained after removing the speaker. However, after several hours the set reverted back to normal.
