I assume that you use foobar already.
If so, I would ask the question: why install a secondary piece of software when foobar's Masstagger can be used to tag and rename files, and does a superb job of it?
My vote for Masstagger I guess.
That said, if you want something a little more GUI, from what I understand MP3Tag uses foobar-style variables and functions in scripts - so it could be an easier transition.
Both look like nice apps. We are lucky to be spoilt for choice with free software.
I have looked at MP3Tag before. I have it and Abander Tag Control installed (Abander was there before I started using foobar). However, I always just use Masstagger.
Edit: Woah, when I started typing there were no responses! I'm getting slow in my old age.

what I'd really like is your opinions plus the app's features it's based on, thanks.

I like foobar2000 for tagging, because of the "everything at your fingertips" feeling; you play your files, you notice a wrong tag? no problem masstagger pops up, done...
Same here. foobar performs all of my audio file admin needs now. I also like the small size/fast loading of foobar, and the flexibility provided by TAGZ.
