Some others are interested in this information for Mac OS X specific setups... all others ignore :)
This message is designed to confirm the Mac OS X/BenQ DW 1655 compatibility.
I bought an oem BenQ DW 1655 lightscribe DVD+/-R drive and installed it on my dual-processor Power Mac running Mac OSX 10.4.4. The BenQ drive replaced my internal superdrive. It took no longer than 7 minutes to physically install the ddrive and reboot the computer. All software immediately recognized the burner, including system profiler, iTunes, Toast 7.0.2, etc... I use disclabel 3.0.2 to burn the lightscribe label (make sure you install the 'HP' driver provided by disclabel's maker SmileOnMyMac). Disclabel will allow you to import song lists from iTunes of any album in your collection, or music disc inserted into your drive. Then you can burn the lightscribe label that includes the album information and a full song list.
I use (1) cdparanoia to rip music using my Plextor Premium (in a LaCie firewire chassis), then (2) make music compilations burned at fairly low C2 error rates using the BenQ DW1655 (analyzed using a friends PC rig), and (3) then burn the lightscribe label. I really like the hardware/software combination, it allows for quick production of [relatively] high-quality audio duplicates/compilations with attractive labels.
Hope this helps some of you decide to get the BenQ!
