You can download the 9 files here.

There's not gonna be Psytel aacenc 2.3.. or any commandline AAC encoder from Ivan anymore.
Ivan works for Ahead, and Nero will be equipped with MPEG4-audio and possibly video plugin.

But the files WERE made with an AACEnc v2.3 weren't they?.. I mean it says v2.3 so it's reasonable. He won't release it..but they were probably created by a v2.3 version right? (or am i wrong)
Phobos
let me get this straight, if ivan is working for ahead, so NERO is getting AAC audio soon??? that would friggin rock!!!
Ivan Dimkovic
Actually, v2.3 is the internal build version of the AAC codec - there won't be command line version of it - however, expect some nice news from Ahead soon smile.gif

Samples here show some advantages over v2.15 - for example, applaud.mp4 clip now sounds excellent without glitch at the end (like in v2.15 encoding) - velvet.wav also has significant improvements, too, etc..
Benjamin Lebsanft
nice but vorbis should be implemented as well. Wonder why they haven't done it yet...
floyd
not sure what this has to do with vorbis?
Benjamin Lebsanft
well, ivan is working for ahead, so i suppose they are going to implement aac anytime soon. So thats nice but vorbis should be supported aswell, get the point biggrin.gif

Ahemm... can I expect an encoder-only application from Nero, too? wink.gif Because I don't even own a CD burner, you know, but would surely like to participate in any new updates of your encoder, even if they have a GUI then and may cost some money.

At which bitrates did you encode them?
menno
You can always download a free evaluation copy of Nero. It will work without cd burner too :-)

The files are all betweeen 100 and 130 kbit/s.

Good news indeed... Do you know how big the download would be and what minimum system ressources are necessary (which Windows version, CPU, RAM, HDD space)? And I assume that this evaluation copy will expire after some time?

With a constant bitrate, a preset, -vbrhi, -vr or -qvbr? wink.gif
Ivan Dimkovic
All files are constant bit rate (CBR)
menno
Well, check http://www.nero.com/ Nero is available there :-) I think it's not very small. AAC plugin has not been released, BTW.

Thanks, but already too "heavy" for me... dry.gif The download size of the newest version 5.5.9.14 is 12.45 MB, and these are the minimum system requirements:

"Nero Burning ROM erfordert folgende Minimalkonfiguration:

Pentium 90 MHz, 16 MB RAM
12 MB freier Festplattenspeicher:
CD-R oder CD-RW Laufwerk, DVD-R/RW oder DVD+RW Laufwerk*
Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP"

Furthermore I assume it will not install on a PC without a CD burner.
Ivan Dimkovic
It will work - I don't have CD burner on my desk PC on work, and it still works smile.gif
Audio-Junkie::X
Those clips sound pretty-damn good for being encoded at 100-130 bitrate biggrin.gif

I might make Psytel AAC my default codec over my current L.A.M.E. one (pun not intended tongue.gif)

Hmm... does working for Ahead mean they own the rights to future releases of the AACenc codec.. meaning we wouldn't get a nice free copy for our enjoyment? :oS

Well, Ivan created Psytel AAC codec, now he works at Ahead. What do you think happened...rolleyes.gif
If you still can't guess, go to the Psytel homepage: http://www.psytel-research.co.yu/

I'd be very surprised if it was a free copy.. The Nero mp3Pro and SVCD plugins aren't free either.
NickSD
Hmm... Ivan, since you work at Ahead, can you answer a question for me? Why don't they release an open plugin architecture to design input plugins for Nero? I've e-mailed and called them numerous times about some sort of input plugin SDK but they never respond. I'd love to be able to burn directly from MPC, APE, and Vorbis...
Ivan Dimkovic
Hmm, I am affraid that I can't answer that question - because I don't work on the plug-in manager API, and I don't decide on what Nero SDK component should be available to public and which not. I can only forward this to someone who is responsible.
JohnV
Well.. Somebody at Vorbis mailing list claimed that Ahead had said that it will be released soon.
http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/200210/0107.html

"Soon" is of course always very relative concept, but I hope it will happen. It's good if Ivan can also send his word to the plugin manager guys. wink.gif

Hmm...all we need then is a WA2 plugin wrapper. Then we'd be set for ages. B)
Mac
Hrmm... sad.gif So MPC is going open source, but AAC is now going behind closed doors.. Are we gonna have to buy Nero just to get an encoder now?
