New drivers for Envy24 HT-S based cards like Chaintech AV-710 etc. Please provide any feedback if you update to this driver, specifically the infamous volume bug that been around for a long time.

The volume bug is not here anymore (for me at least).
The driver allows 192khz on hi-sample rate.

It used to be possible to activate the ALT OUT output (without choosing the hi sample rate mode) by enabling "S/PDIF" out and choosing "PCM only" but not anymore.

Oh and I forget: when I tried to play the test sounds from the "audio deck" software, well no sound was heard. But that was not all: after that there was no sound at all (no sound from windows or multimedia players), whatever channel mode was chosen.

(maybe it's just me but I'll use another version)

Has anyone else tested this driver out?

I did and went back to 4.73b.

Setup was XP SP2 with integrated hotfixes up to mid February, fresh installation. I installed AC 97 for the onboard card (Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 v1), rebooted, installed Envy24 5.00a for the AV-710. Sound setup is fb2k > ASIO plugin > ASIO4ALL > Envy24 > AV-710 > analog out for music; and AC 97 for everything else.

The Audio Deck panel crashed and the sound stopped every time I tried to switch from "Hi Sample Rate 2 Channel" to "2 Channel" (the setup mentioned by nyarlathotep). I tried to uninstall it to install 4.73b. I had no success, I restored an image of the partition, and installed 4.73b.

4.73b works fine here, without the volume-control bug.

Thanks, looks like I'll stick with 1.43 but I'll try 4.73b first. IIRC, I experienced the volume bug with those drivers

Having never seen this bug, I'm not quite sure what it is. I have tried two or three versions between 1.43 and 4.73b, but I always went back to 1.43 within minutes, before getting round to checking the bug.

The master volume of 4.73b works fine for me, both in "Hi Sample Rate 2-Channel" and in "2-Channel".

I had the volume control blug with all previous versions (except maybe 1.43 way back when, but I haven't used that in a long time).

I haven't had any problems with 5.00, except that I read somewhere some method to use the better Wolfson DAC but in normal 2-channel mode, and it doesn't work anymore. (It involves selecting 2-channel mode, changing the samplerate to Auto, and selecting PCM Only, I think.)

But the volume bug is fixed for me, and I haven't had any other problems.

Use the previous driver, 4.73b if you want to use the Wolfson DAC in normal 2 channel mode without using the High Sample mode and SSRC/PPHS resampling in foobar, which is cpu usage heavy. In normal 2 channel mode, the volume bug doesn't affect it at all, only in High Sample 2 channel mode.

Weird problem here: I had 5.00 installed (like I posted earlier), but wanted to go back to 4.73b so I could use the Wolfson without resampling to 96kHz (as others have posted about). So I uninstalled 5.00, tried reinstalling 4.73 w/o rebooting first, but that didn't work, so I rebooted, uninstalled it again, installed 4.73b, and rebooted--but I still can't get that trick to work. I'm pretty sure I could when I last had 4.73b (about a month ago), but now no sound plays through the 7+8 jack when I do the above.

Never mind, I fixed it--I'd forgotten to select "Enable SP/DIF." blush.gif

is it better to do the high sample rate mode and resample to 96khz or not resample and use auto sample mode and regular two channel out of the black wolfson jack?? which will give better sound?

anyone?
