Full Version: two ideas for developers out there ...

seriously, i got a couple of cool ideas for plugins, but i'm a pretty lousy programmer so i'm not going to attempt them.

- foo_alarm = set date/time alarms and if foobar is in your tray (or minimised) on pause or stopped, the plugin will start foobar at a given time for that date. perfect for making foobar your alarm clock. maybe even use a specified playlist, even if another is in the cue.

- foo_flash = a dll that would expose an swf to an array of metadata about the currently playing track, so the swf can use that information to build a visualization.

i'd just thought i'd post these see if anyone takes on them or not.

Not ideal, but you could possibly use foo_text. The SWF would just need to check the text file every second or so and act upon the contents.

yeah, i tried the foo_text thingy ... works good but kinda slow. either the swf was reading fast enough (even though the importVariables command was being used every 12 frames or every second) or foobar wasn't tracking changes fast enough. it'd usually be 10 seconds or so into a song before the info was changes.

i was thinking that a dll could act like a viz plugin and use a specifically named swf file in the same directory. the dll would basically be a modded flash player and would probably be faster than using a middleman like a text file.
