Full Version: EAC and Lame.exe "bit rate" dropdown option

EAC.exe: V0.95 beta 3
LAME.exe: 3.97 beta 2

On the External Compression tab i'm using these settings:

Parameter passing scheme: LAME MP3 Encoder
Program: C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame.exe
Additional command line options: -V 2 --vbr-new

My question is with the tab's "Bit Rate" dropdown. It would seem to be acting as a low end limit to the encoding. For example, if it is set to 192, then in the LAME histogram I don't see any frames below 192 and if it's set to 320 then i get a full rate 320 mp3. I would expect this dropdown to be ignored with the presets and I don't remember this happening with with earlier versions, but is this now the expected behavior? What should the "bit rate" dropdown be set to in order to get the equivalent of "-alt preset standard" files?

If you have the parameter passing scheme set to "LAME MP3 Encoder" changing the dropdown list to anything but 128Kbps will add the -b switch to your command line. The -b switch sets the minimum bitrate that should be used.

To resolve this, select "User Defined Encoder", and ensure your command line ends with %s %d, e.g.:

-V2 --vbr-new %s %d
