I really dig Hamachi. I used it regularly whilst a good friend of mine spent six months in New Zealand (I'm in Australia). It is really handy for spur of the moment, instant VPN's.

Another recent P2P release which I have been testing for the past month is called Grouper.

It is distinct from the other programs in that it allows you to stream your audio content as well as make available your content for downloading.

The only stipulation with Grouper, is that you can't post Mp3 or WMA file extensions directly for downloading. However, most users either zip the files or my preference is to simply change the file extension of Mp3 to AVI. The AVI extension plays in Winamp or Windows Media Player. Naturally you can change the extension back to Mp3 with "Extension Changer" tool.

The biggest negative of this program? Big resource hog.

Give it a try here: http://www.grouper.com/

BTW: Another soon to be released option is called "AllPeers" connected through Mozilla. It will be out in a few weeks: http://www.allpeers.com

wouldn't waste be good for this?

WASTE is perfect for small scale P2P applications (50 users or less), however it is not particularly easy to use. In particular, non-technical users have a hard time grasping the initial key exchange piece. If you can get people over that hurdle, generally they pick up the rest of the program rather rapidly. It does everything you need, and is quite lightweight on both CPU and RAM. It's also using secure cryptographic methods for all communication, so no worries about eavesdropping or anything.

It also does instant messaging and chatrooms over your little private P2P network, which comes in quite handy as well.
