First off - ignore the foo_winamp_input in the topic title. I've fixed that problem and can't edit the thread title, so.... *shrugs*

I recently switched back to foo_gep as opposed to foo_gym , foo_spc and foo_vgm after discovering that Megadrive music can now be done (and far more awesomely) in VGM format rather than GYM, and foo_vgm can't (to my knowledge, anyway) do it.

I've had a few hiccups along the way, and was wondering if anyone'd be able to help me resolve them (I didn't know whether to put this in here or Support, so if it's in the wrong forum, I'm sorry and can someone move it? =) ). I'd better mention at this point the player I'm using, I guess - I'm on 0.8.3 still - waiting for 0.9 to get out of alpha before switching over what with the completely new settings needed.

# The latest foo_gep seems to freeze up playing VGMs that it was fine with before I got the latest version kode compiled in late December: the entire PC is unresponsive for about 3 minutes. In the exact same way the old one does the freezing on the new types of VGM. Is there anyway to be able to play both types of VGM on foobar2000?

# Speaking of GEP, is it possible to turn certain formats off? It seems to play GYMs horribly (though I'm trying to wean myself off the format, I still have a few sets left that aren't in VGM yet), and it's not that hot at GBS either. I'd rather not have to go back to the foo_gym/foo_spc/foo_gym combination I was using before, as that won't play my new VGMs - though I did throw foo_gym back in which seems to have temporarily solved the gym problem. Unfortunately GEP is being more stubborn regarding releasing GBS...

So, anyone? Sorry if I waffled too much =P

EDIT: Clarifications & typos - and I fixed one of the problems myself entirely by accident, so removed it =P

What version of windows are you running? Unless you have foobar2000 set to realtime priority, on a modern OS (NT,2000,XP), the whole PC freezing should not be possible unless its a driver/serious system issue.

Title edited.

foosion - thanks.

david - Windows XP SP1 - though the system returns to normal the moment I can get foobar closed (during the freeze, I can move the mouse about once every 10 seconds or so: it's jumpy as it does so, but it works...

If you have crazy resamplings enabled it may cause such problem.

I wish foo_gep would have the standard looping and playback options that every other player has though (costum number of loops can be set with costum amount of fadeout). Right now the only choice is either infinite looping or none at all, neither is a good option. That looping thing wouldn't hurt for other plugins either, like module files and such.

I don't think I have. I've basically just got it set so it plays VGMs into infinity - is this somehow affecting the Master System VGMs?

And I'd love a way to turn parts of gep off, if they exist...

Has anyone noticed that SPC files dont playback properly? Is this because the plugin is still in beta stages? Some parts of my Castlevania SPC files play OK, but then the drum parts seem like muffled halfbeats.

Zophar's Domain has a broken rip, redownload from snesmusic.org for future reference.

Many thanks for your answer kode54, snesmusic.org is a great site!

After hearing foo_vgm plays the new VGM files, I ditched GEP again and went back to foo_spc, foo_vgm and foo_gym - all is working fine again now, even the older VGM files. Ta for the help everyone!
