Full Version: Can't convert to mp3?

When I go to Preferences->Components->Diskwriter (of which I have version 2.1), my only two options are both into .WAV. Every tutorial I read about converting audio formats says that the diskwriter can do it; however, mine doesn't have any way that I have yet found to convert to mp3s.

I am using verion 0.8.3, but I've seen tutorials for 0.7.x that also state this, so it's not something special to 0.9, I'd think.

I'm at my wits' end, and I have no idea why I cannot convert to mp3. If I knew what else the problem might be, I would note it, but I cannot find any information on this problem. Can anyone help?

This thread should provide some answers.

Basic upshot: you need foo_clienc (link in thread).

I've installed foo_clienc, but I'm not entirely sure how that helps me. Everything keeps referring to LAME, but the LAME webpage doesn't give me any download links.

Do I actually have to install LAME, or is it actually buried somewhere I just don't know about?

If you read my guide it should answer most questions I think.

You can get the recommended version of LAME here.

My suggestion would be to put it in your system32 folder in your Windows directory. This just makes things a whole lot easier all round; not just for foobar but any other use of LAME. This was covered in the thread I link to above.

Put LAME.EXE in system32, read my guide as to how to edit a profile, and read this wiki page regarding LAME command lines.

Feel free to ask any other questions here. If they are covered by my guide, the thread, or the wiki, I may well berate you fervently though. wink.gif

Okay, I got it working.

My main complaint about your guide is that it simply said "For this example I will use LAME - but any command line encoder, or specific Diskwriter component, can be used." Being as I did not have LAME, and was having difficulty finding a place that said where to download it or how/where to install it, I was sorely confused.

But yes, I got it working. Thank you very much! wub.gif

Every mention of LAME in my guide is a link to the LAME website.

However, I must admit that I have previously found it slightly difficult to find links to binaries on the LAME website.

I'm glad you're up and running now anyway. Feel free to ask any questions regarding the command line.
